Love, Relationship and the Soul Mate Myth

The Dream and the Awakening - Dr. Michael Mason

Relationships give us some of our greatest joys and relationships can also give us some of our greatest challenges.

Like many people in Western society, Aaron has “the dream” of finding his ideal mate - some call it a soul-mate. The one person that we think will bring us fulfillment and happiness. Aaron thinks he's found her in Katherine. But he's been married to Dorit for fourteen years and has two sons that he loves dearly. Aaron desperately wants to do the right thing.

Should he follow his narcissistic tendencies and sacrifice the family unit for his need to be with a more compatible woman? Or should he follow the altruistic path: sacrifice his personal needs for the sake of the family?

Being crazy in love makes him crazy. Aaron enters a nightmare dilemma of indecision. He tries not to hurt anyone, and in the process, hurts everyone. Join him for the final Awakening, when he starts to wonder if the whole soul mate concept is just a big romantic fallacy.

The Dream and the Awakening is a story about relationships that you will want to give to your lover, girlfriend, boyfriend, husband, wife, friend, and especially yourself.

This is what happens to Aaron in… The Dream and the Awakening

The Dream and the Awakening – an excerpt:

The visit was over and Aaron headed for the front door. His six-year-old son, Ricky, scampered ahead of him, turned the deadbolt, locked the chain, and stood with legs spread apart, blocking the door.

Aaron started unlocking the door. Ricky grabbed hold of Aaron's wrist with two hands. He leaned his body back, trying to leverage his small weight into the effort to hold his father. "I'm not going to let you go, Daddy," he said defiantly.
" Ricky, Stop it!" Aaron yanked his wrist away and opened the front door. Ricky charged back and grabbed his thigh. He wrapped both arms around his father's leg, holding on for dear life.

" Dorit! Would you please help me?" Aaron appealed to his wife. Dorit appeared in the doorway of the kitchen. "What's going on?" She saw Aaron half way out the door, ready to head home to his "soul mate," for whom he'd left his family a week ago. Ricky had slid down the leg and was now sitting on Aaron's foot, hugging tightly with arms and legs wrapped around Aaron's calf.

" Ricky, really," said Dorit. "Let go of your father. You're being ridiculous now." She grasped him under his arms and pulled him off.

" Saul, Saul, help me," Ricky appealed to his older brother while struggling to free himself from his mother's grasp. "Don't let him go."

" It's no use, Ricky," said Saul bitterly, watching the scene helplessly, on the verge of tears.

Little Ricky looked up at his father, imploring him with those big, dark, brown eyes and long lashes he'd inherited from Dorit's family.
" Then just stay for dinner, okay? Mommy, can he stay for dinner?"

" C'mon sweetheart, you have to let him go now."

" No! This is your house," Ricky declared. "We are your family. You're supposed to stay here!" He wriggled out of her grasp, gave them both the dirtiest look he could manage and screamed, "I hate you both." They watched, astounded, as he ran away down the hall and into his room, slamming the door behind him.
